Sachem Marching Band Competing at New York State Championships

Looking to bring back Governor's Cup to Long Island.

Sachem's marching band is performing Sunday at the 37th New York State Field Band Conference Championship in Syracuse. More than 5,000 high school band members compete. There are over 50 high school bands that participate for 22 judges in the course of 14 hours.

Nearly 10,000 fans attend the championship at the Carrier Dome each year. It marks the culmination of an eight-week season. Each of the competing schools perform a musical and visual program lasting between seven and 10 minutes.

The highest scoring band from New York in each class is awarded the prestigious Governor's Cup.

Sachem competes in the Large School 3 category. During the regular season this year, the Flaming Arrows gradually increased their scores at each meet.

Sachem won the NYSFBC championship in 1997, 1999, 2005, and 2008.
