Sachem Gets 1.7 Percent Less in State Aid

Numbers finally come in Wednesday, but Sachem is one of the lowest on LI.

The numbers are in and the Sachem Central School District is receiving 1.7 percent less in state aid for the 2010-11 school year.

Sachem will get $98,343,11, down $4,773,857 from last year's total.  The district will operate with a budget of $280,711,665 in 2010-11.

Overall, the state is dishing out $2.3 billion in aid, which is 3.4 percent less than last year. Long Island schools are receiving roughly $80 million less. Many speculate there will be more cuts of up to $20 million coming soon.

Sachem is receiving the fifth lowest total of aid behind Copiague (­-2.29), Islip (-2.04), Mount Sinai (-1.92) and Elwood (-1.90).

Among the districts receiving increases in aid are Hempstead (+1.18), Roosevelt (+.69), East Meadow (+.53) and Center Moriches (+.05).
