Sachem East Wins See-Saw Battle Against Longwood

Steve Casali rushes for 289 yards, three touchdowns to help preserve win.

The Sachem East Flaming Arrows improved to 3-2 on the season after pulling out a hard-fought win on the road against the Longwood Lions last night.

Trailing 10-0 at one point, the game featured four lead-changes and three rushing touchdowns from Steven Casali as the Arrows defeated division rival Longwood 25-17. Casali finished the game with 289 rushing yards and recovered a fumble.

Casali's first run was a 68-yard sideline dash with three minutes to go before halftime, and helped Sachem East close the 10-0 gap. After a solid kickoff runback to begin the second half, Casali dialed up another 50-yard run to put Sachem ahead.

The Lions roared back, however. After holding Sachem East deep in their own end, they forced a punt, which was mishandled. Longwood recovered at Sachem's 5-yardline and punched it in to take back their lead.

But Sachem's Quarterback Danny Wolff answered the score with a touchdown pass to Ryan Dippel to jump back on top, and Casali added his third touchdown of the night (a 34-yarder) to seal the deal.

Next week Sachem East will host undefeated Connetquot in perhaps one of its toughest challenges yet.
