Sachem East High School is inviting the Sachem community to come watch some quality wrestling matches while supporting a good cause.
The "Sachem Takes Down Cancer" event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 19 and will benefit Sachem East alum and All-County wrestler Paul Di Iorio, who is currently battling a rare form of cancer.
Di Iorio will need to undergo a lengthy treatment regimen with frequent visits to Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. A similar benefit was held last October at the Holtsville Fire Department.
The December 19 event features Sachem East vs. William Floyd and Sachem North vs. Brentwood at 7 p.m. at the high school. The respective JV squads will square off earlier in the day at 4 p.m. Admission to the event is $3 and all proceeds will go to the Di Iorio family.
