Sachem East Math Teacher Featured in Animated Educational Video

Scott Kennedy stars in math tutorial launched on TED-Ed website.

Sachem East High School mathematics teacher Scott Kennedy had his likeness used in a recent animated video hosted by the educational webiste TED-Ed.

In the video, Kennedy presents a 5-minute lesson plan centered on Euclid, the ancient Greek mathematician most famous for reinventing the way math is conceived. According to a release by Sachem Schools, Kennedy has been posting math lessons on his personal YouTube channel for years, and learned last spring that he would be one of the first 100 teachers to have a lesson hosted on TED-Ed.

Kennedy recorded his own lesson, using TED-Ed's recording equipment. The lesson was then illustrated by Karrot Animation, a British-based company.

"I’ve always wanted to be a cartoon character," Kennedy stated in a release. "That’s just awesome. I’m an animated person in the classroom. I get very into my lessons and what I’m talking about. They really captured it pretty well because they watched my YouTube videos."

Reacting to the news, newly appointed Sachem East Principal Lou Antonetti stated: "Scott is a very dynamic teacher whose passion and enthusiasm for math lead to great outcomes in the classroom. The recognition he is receiving for his work on TED-Ed is a credit to his persistent approach and ability to vary lessons structures based on student abilities.”
