Sachem East Lacrosse Gaining Speed In Scrimmage

Head Coach Robert Murphy reports the team is on pace to be ready for serious play when official schedule begins.

The Sachem East Boys Lacrosse team's debut scrimmage against Rocky Point went well, according to Head Coach Robert Murphy.

"The offense looked very good at times and we looked in great physical shape," Murphy stated in an email. Murphy added that the team got soem solid goaltending performance in the contest.

This year goaltenders include senior Pete DeGennaro, and Michael Bollinger.

"We are right about where we should be despite the bad weather lately," Murphy stated. "We have to work on a few things and hopefully get even stronger."

Much of the core that made up last year's 7th-seeded playoff team is returning to the field this year. The East Flaming Arrows' entire offense is still intact with seniors John Vigh, Tom Engelken, AJ Solomito, Mike Buencamino and Joe Eiseman.

According to Murphy junior Jason DeBenedictis and sophomores Tyler Alvarez and Joe Licata will also return on offense. Murphy said the team will be relying on those "go-to" guys during the campaign.

Sachem East's next scrimmage is scheduled for March 18 against West Babylon at 3:30 p.m.
