Sachem East Graduates Class of 2012

A sun-soaked day marks Farmingville ceremony.

Parents and community members of Sachem East High School's graduation ceremony had the benefit of beach weather to watch the school graduate more than 500 seniors on the school's athletic field.

"It's always a struggle for me to think of the right thing to say to a graduating class," East Principal Rory Manning said to the packed bleachers. "I feel as if each one of our graduates has made such a positive contribution to our school, and I've been blessed to get to know your children over the past four years."

As he did last night at Sachem North Sen. Chuck Schumer delivered a personal address to the students.

Valedictorian Valerie Zeffiro and Class President Ryan Welwood also addressed the class of 2012. The festivities were highlighted with some rousing musical performances from graduating senior Alberto Calderon, who sang "Your Love is My Love," and graduating members of the Sachem East chorus, who sang "Goodbye, My Friend."

Patch will have more extensive coverage, including speeches, performances, and photos in the days to come.
