Sachem East Girls Track Team Divides Time

It was another busy weekend for the girls of Sachem East as the track squad was again split between the Armory in Manhattan and Suffolk West in Brentwood.

The highlight performance at the Hispanic Games was the 2nd place finish (7:06.08) of Holly Lindoe in the 1500 Meter Racewalk. Lindoe and the winner, Annica Penn of Westhampton are now ranked numbers 1 and 2 in the U.S.

Also competing in the Elite Racewalk event, Sarah LaPorta turned in a season best 7:51.84 and Val Aucillo got some valuable top level racing experience. Shannon O'Hehir recorded East's best mile performance with a 5:29.55, and Ebonie Lewis (7.58) and Essence Sterling (7.63) continued to roll in the 55, while combining with Shannon Haberkorn and Ashley Mercado to set a season best in the 4 by 200 relay (1:52.55).

Meanwhile, at the final Crossover meet of the seaon, numerous East Girls recorded top 6 finishes in the 12 team meet. In the jumps, Amanda DiSalvo placed 4th in the Long Jump (14'11"), and Shannon Haberkorn placed 5th in the Triple Jump (31'.5"). Ebonie Lewis and Sam May went 4, 6 in the 55, and Shannon Haberkorn (9.42) and Paige Picascio (9.77) hit personal bests to place 2nd and 4th in the 55 Hurdles. Karli Murphy placed first in the 3000 (11:27.45), and Laurie Semetsis (3:10.82) and Casey Gelderman (3:22.28) went 2nd and 5th in the 1000 Meter Run.

Sachem East Relay squads placed 2nd and 5th in the 4 by 200 relays despite some interesting hand offs, and the 4 by 400 squad that managed to get the baton around the track placed 5th.

The throws squad topped off another strong team performance with Diamond Jackson (37'2.5"), Brittany Sepe (34'), Gabby Trejo (32'11.25"), and Kaitlin Raftice (27'10.5"), taking places 1, 2, 3, and 6.

The team will be split again this weekend (for the last time this season) between the Stanner Games at the Armory and the Jim Howard Memorial Track Meet at Suffolk West. Both meets are scheduled for Saturday morning starts.
