Sachem East Girls Track Results Show Promise

Results are in from girls' competition in Crossover "B" at Suffolk West.

 

There were a number of promising performances turned in by the Sachem East Girls Track team at Monday's Crossover, highlighted by the 1, 2, 3, finish of Sachem throwing squad of Gabby Trejo (35'7.25"), Diamond Jackson (35'5") and Brittany Sepe (33'2"). Other scoring performances in the field events were turned in by High Jumpers Alissa Naer (3rd- 4"6") and Sam May (5th- 4"3"), and Triple Jumper Amanda Sluzewski (5th- 30'.5").

Besides Trejo, Holly Lindoe was the only 1st place finisher as she took the 1500 Meter Racewalk in 7:26.86, with Sarah La Porta 3rd in 7:54.67. In other distance events, Ciara Murphy placed 4th in the 1000 (3:18.88), Shannon O'Hehir (5:09.53) and Karli Murphy (5:19.88) went 4, 5 in the 1500, and Kaitlin DeMartino (11:47.34), Katie Hempfling (11:54.68) and Brenna McGuire (12:34.24) took places 3rd, 4th, and 6th in the 3000 Meter Run.

Sachem East also had numerous scoring performances in the sprint events. Ebonie Lewis was 2nd in the 55 Meter Dash (7.74) with Essence Sterling 4th in 7.87. Paige Picascio placed 4th in the 55 Hurdles in 10.06, and the 4 by 200 Relay of Lewis, Rebecca Carroll, Amanda DiSalvo and Ashley Mercado was 4th in 1:58.91. The 4 by 400 Relay squad of Jayda Allen, Allison Figalora, Shannon O'Hehir, and Casey Gelderman finished 2nd in 4:30.91. Outstanding non-scoring performances at this 12 team Crossover meet were turned in by Lauren Alberg, Marrissa Smith, Val Auciello, and Mikayla Canales.

The team will be split in two locations this weekend, allowing the entire squad to compete for the first time this season. A small veteran contingent will be heading to the Armory Track and Field Center in Manhattan on Saturday for the prestigious Bishop Loughlin Games, with the rest of the team striving to continue to take it up a notch at Crossover "C" at Suffolk West.

Performances at these two meets will be crucial in determining selections for the team's upcoming Holiday vacation trips to the North Shore Invitational and the Rhode Island Classic as the East Girls Indoor Track team continues to work towards its goal of a three-peat at the League 1 Championship in late January.
