The Sachem East Girls Basketball team saved their best for last on Saturday, pouring on the offense and defense in the second half and defeating Walt Whitman in the Class AA semifinals by a score of 38-23.
The victory puts Sachem East into the county final against North Babylon, who edged Commack 47-45 on Saturday as well.
East went into half time trailing Walt Whitman 19-16, but whatever was said in the locker room worked, as the Flaming Arrows took over the court, going on a 14-0 run in the third, and holding Whitman to just four points in the fourth to pull out the win at St. Joseph's College.
So far Sachem East has put away Brentwood, Riverhead and now Walt Whitman on their path to a county championship.
The Suffolk County Championship game will be held at Ward Melville High School on Tuesday, February 26 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $6, according to sectionxi.org.
