Sachem East Girls Hoops Advance To Semis

Flaming Arrows dominate second and third quarters en route to decisive win over Riverhead.

The Sachem East Girls Basketball Team earned a spot in the semifinals this coming Saturday with a dominating 63-38 victory of the Riverhead Blue Waves at Sachem East last night.

The win featured solid contributions all around, as Katie Doherty banked 21 points, Kathleen Everson pitched in with 16 points and Emily Carmel clocked 11. Everson led the team with nine rebounds. Other contributions came from Sammy Drake, with eight points and Allie Drake, who scored seven points on the night.

The team outscored Riverhead 20 to 4 in the second quarter and 24 to 10 in the third, allowing the girls to focus on defense for much of the final eight minutes.

Sachem East will go on to face Walt Whitman at St. Joseph's College on Saturday at 3 p.m. Whitman defeated Bellport last night 57-49.

I sure hope to see a large turnout saturday at st Josephs at 3pm. Support the girls! They are having an awesome season.
