Sachem East Football Postpones Home Game Against Pat-Med, Trailed 7-6 When Game Stopped

Game called on account of lightning, will be replayed Friday afternoon.

An overcast gray sky with howling winds threatened to delay play from kickoff, but not before Sachem East sophomore running back Steven Casali led an East campaign to visiting Patchogue-Medford's end zone, closing the gap 7-6 on a first-and-five play the resulted in an 18-yard carry with 4:48 remaining in the first.

As he basked in the congratulations of his teammates, lightning lit up the sky and officials delayed the game until Friday afternoon before East could attempt an extra point.

Pat-Med scored in two plays after advancing the kickoff to its 40, carrying to East's 41 on a third-and-three to set up Raiders senior tight end Sal Palumbo for a scamper through a right-side seam to draw first blood, aided by kicker Lucas Castillo's PAT with 9:55 left.

East junior receiver Ryan Mellon returned the punt to Pat-Med's 47, where the drive stalled before going three-and-out, but the Arrows repossessed on a third-down play at Pat-Med's 29 thanks to Ryan Wellwood's interception. Casali completed the first down, and an offsides call against Pat-Med gave East the first-and-five advantage it needed on the scoring play.

The game will resume Friday at East at 3:30 p.m.
