Sachem East Boys Soccer Returns to Winning Ways

After 4-1 defeat at home to cross-town rivals, bounces back with victory over Ward Melville.

The Sachem East Flaming Arrows apparently didn't suffer any hangover from their 4-1 loss to Sachem North in Boys Soccer. The varsity squad, on the foot of Vinny Oliveto, edged past second-place Ward Melville for a 1-0 victory yesterday.

Newsday reported that Oliveto scored the game's only goal in the first half, and goalie Chris Gutierrez stopped 12 shots--good enough to earn them the paper's headline. The win puts Sachem East (6-4 overall) in a prime position to make the playoffs this year as the next two games are against sub-par teams: Patchogue-Medford and Longwood, respectively.

Sachem East travels to Pat-Med on October 15 for a 4:30 game.
