MSG Varsity has unveiled its latest in high school sports programming with "On the Mat," to be hosted by Ronkonkoma's Gregg Sarra.
The 30-minute show will cover high school wrestling in the tri-state area, offering in-depth coverage of matches, athlete profiles and coaches takes. The show will be available for live-streaming every Monday morning on MSGVarsity.com, and televised on Optimum Channel 14 on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.
Wrestling experts Bob Badders, from New Jersey and Nick Garone from New York will join Sarra on a regular basis to offer differing perspectives on the sport.
Sarra, who wrestled in high school, is a Newsday reporter and a regular play-by-play football commentator for MSG Varsity. His new assignment, however, is a shift from football.
“To be a successful athlete and compete at the high school level, one needs to be completely dedicated, disciplined and willing to sacrifice,” Sarra said in a statement. “To me, wrestlers are the most extremely dedicated athletes, and I’m really excited to be hosting this show highlighting these student athletes.”
