Preview: Sachem North vs. Sachem East: The Nor'Easter

Sachem North Football Coach David Falco answers some questions about tomorrow's upcoming challenge against their twin sibling.

Last week, both Sachem North and Sachem East dominated in their respective Homecoming Games. North trounced Patchogue-Medford 51-14, while East handled Commack 27-7. North is undefeated at 3-0. East's only loss came to the Long Island Champion Wm. Floyd Colonials, as they stand at 2-1. Now both teams will go head-to-head in the Nor'Easter, what has become a tradition as anticipated as Homecoming.

Sachem North will look to keep the ball rolling and stay undefeated. If they can get past East, they stand a great chance of going 5-0 as they face Northport the week after. A win for East means they stay above .500, especially with a tough challenge against Longwood in Week 5.

Patch spoke with Sachem North Head Coach Dave Falco about tomorrow's big game.

On whether or not the Nor'Easter means anything special for the team: "Our mode this week has been just another game; just another game: focus on what we need to do better as a team."

On the health of Trent Crossan (sidelined in the second half last week) and the overall health of the team: "No problems [Trent] will start. Anthony Ross out again this week."

On whether or not the Nor'Easter is good for Sachem School District:  "I would have rathered the district made one school bigger and one school smaller so our teams would have been in different leagues and divisions in all of our sports. But not too many of the athletic community's opinions were looked at in a positive light back then. If the schools played in different divisions Sachem kids would not have to compete against Sachem kids and Sachem coaches (some of whom teach in the same buildings) wouldn't have to compete against each other."

On what the team worked on this week to prepare for East: "All phases of the game. We are a young team and a work in progress...getting better but not where we want to be on either side of the ball."

Keys to the game:

  • Win turnover battle
  • Win special teams/field position battle
  • Limit costly penalties on offense
  • Run the ball effectively to keep their offense off the field
  • Don't let receivers get behind us
  • Gang tackle their run
