Preview: Sachem North vs. Northport

Sachem North Football Coach David Falco answers some questions about last week's win and the upcoming challenge on the road.

Last week Sachem North (4-0) defeated their sibling school Sachem East (2-2) by a score of 21-14 in a hotly contested, defensive battle. Sophomore Kevin Bregaglia was the star of the game, taking the opening kickoff to the house, scoring a touchdown with a great catch on a deep pass, and pulling down an interception to stop what was a promising Sachem East drive.

On Saturday, October 6, they hit the road to take on the Northport Tigers, a team Sachem East beat soundly in the opening game of the season. Northport is 2-2, and seems to be on a roll after dropping its first two games. Last week they trounced Bay Shore 42-24. Sachem North Coach Dave Falco is not taking Northport's .500 record lightly. Here are some of Falco's thoughts and facts for Saturday's game.

On the condition of Trent Crossan (sidelined during last week's Nor'Easter: Trent is feeling better. He is day to day and will be a game-time decision.

Any mid-week adjustments on the offensive side of the ball? No we do what we do. We have to play with more intensity and stay on our blocks longer.

On the week's preparation for Northport: Northport is a good team and we will have our hands full with them. We are expecting a 4th-quarter battle, with the team who makes the least mistakes winning the game.

Northport's strengths? A very sound on offense, with a balanced attack: both run and pass.

  • Win the turnover battle.
  • Win the special teams/field position battle.
  • Stay out of 3rd and long.
  • Limit their big plays.
  • Have at least four explosive plays on offense (25+ yards.)
