Preview: Sachem North vs. Longwood

Sachem North Football Coach David Falco answers some questions about righting North's ship after back-to-back losses.

Last week, the injury depleted Sachem North Flaming Arrows traveled to Mastic Beach to take on a much healthier William Floyd Colonials, and clearly the missing starters for Sachem were missed sorely. According to Head Coach Dave Falco, the team actually recruited some players up from JV to start against Floyd in order to fill the gaps created by injuries. Falco said he worked out JV players for this week's game as well.

William Floyd ran away with the game 35-3, improving to 5-1, just under  6-0 Connetquot. For Sachem North (4-2) it was the second loss in a row, after getting beaten at Northport 33-10.

This week the Flaming Arrows face a much more beatable, but still tough Longwood Lions team. We spoke with Falco about some of the preparations coming into tonight's game.

On the focus of this week's practice and Longwood's scouting: "Fundamentals. [Longwood is] big, athletic, fast and aggressive on the defensive side of the ball."

On whether or not the replacement players focused on anything new to gain an advantage:  "We have to be better at what we do. It's about blocking and tackling."

Five Keys to the Game:

  • Limit turnovers
  • Stay out of third and long
  • Find a way to improve pass defense
