North's Picco Receives Congressional Nomination for United States Military Academy

Hopes to pursue a career in the military and serve her country.

Sachem North's Samantha Picco received a Congressional nomination from Rep. Tim Bishop to the United States Military Academy at West Point.

The senior who was an All-Sachem Patch First Team selection for volleyball will find out in late January or early February if she is accepted to the academy.

"I know that every path I take is going to involve the military," she said. "I want to purse a career in the Army. I have the utmost respect for the soldiers who risk their lives for our country and want to help protect the freedoms of our generation and the ones after."

The Congressional nomination process normally takes about a year, but Picco was able to write three essays, and handle the physical fitness examination with ease.
