North Senior Earns Running Scholarship
Award granted to Ronkonkoma senior attending SUNY-New Paltz in the fall.
The Greater Long Island Running Club presented its Herb Grayson Memorial Scholarship Award to Sachem North senior Maria Gillin at its general meeting on Tuesday.
According to a relase from the club, the award is granted every year to one or more Suffolk or Nassau County high school seniors for their "involvement in and service to the Long Island running community."
Maria was granted the award after serving for the past four years as a coach and guide for the Rolling Thunder Team for Special Needs Athletes. She took part in 15 to 20 races each year as a coach or guide, spent time each week at practices, and was a guide for a blind runner.

Maria will attend SUNY-New Paltz in the fall to earn a certificate in Special Education.
