North Science Students Win Big at LI Youth Summit
Video on water quality earns big honors and financial gain via school credit.
Science students from Sachem High School North were honored last week at the Long Island Youth Summit at Dowling College for their video on water quality on Long Island.
Twenty eight students from Sachem participated in the overall event, but only five made the winning video, including Brianna D’Amato, Amanda Miller, Lauren Waka, Shayna Daly and Sam Swift.
Sachem’s winning students produced a video titled “Water we going to do?” about public awareness on the source of Long Island’s drinking water and the problems associated with water quality and conservation on Long Island.

All students who participated were placed into an interactive workshop to brainstorm solutions to current problems facing Long Island, according to Sachem science teacher and student advisor Monica Marlowe.

Depending on the workshop, each was led by experts in the fields of government, economy, environmental preservation, education, and community and non-profit activism fields, among others.
At the end of the Summit all came together and select students spoke to the whole conference about their solutions to these problems that face their generation on Long Island.
