Newsweek: Sachem East, North Among Best High Schools in Nation

News company ranks top six percent of high schools in America for 2010.

Sachem High Schools East and North were ranked in Newsweek’s list of America’s Best High Schools for 2010.

The news magazine ranked just over 1,600 schools, or roughly the top six percent in the nation.

Sachem North is ranked 1,057, while East is 1,237.

The top ranked school in New York, 10th overall in the nation, is City Honors in Buffalo, while Jericho was the top on Long Island at No. 34 and Harborfields is tops in Suffolk at No. 285.

Other Suffolk County schools making the list are Port Jefferson, Hauppauge, Hills West, Hills East, Mattituck, Northport, Miller Place, Westhampton, Southampton, Pierson, East Hampton, Babylon, Commack, Ward Melville, John Glenn, Mt. Sinai, and Walt Whitman.

“These schools are quite different from Sachem when it comes to demographics, but I would put us up against any other district near or far,” said Sachem Superintendent James Nolan. “This is a testimony to our students, staff members and families.”
