Mike Isernia will run unopposed to keep his seat on the Sachem Central School District board of education.
Isernia, who will have to run again next year for a full three year term, was appointed to the board after David Egloff stepped down mid-year.
“I was very humbled when I was appointed,” said Isernia, who lives in Holbrook and graduated from Sachem in 1981. “It’s been a very fulfilling experience. With four seats coming up, with me staying there is some continuity.”
Isernia has a bachelor’s from SUNY Maritime, a master’s from Dowling College and a J.D. from Touro College. Prior to being a board trustee, he served on the capital projects and budget advisory committee in Sachem.
“It’s been very rewarding,” Isernia said of his experience giving back to Sachem. “We deal with some very not so nice things sometimes. That’s miniscule compared to all the good that goes on every day. I try to always remember that.”
He works as a section manager for Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. in Melville and said his background in facilities operations has helped provide more scrutiny of capital costs that yield significant savings and his legal background provides a proper understanding of the district's legal obligations and mandates.
"The district has to continue implementing a controlled right sizing to account for the decrease in state aid and provide quality education at affordable rates," he said.
Isernia has been extremely supportive of the performing arts in the Sachem school system and said he will continue to be a voice on the board for those extra curricular activities.
