Merrimac Students' Fundraiser Successful

Fourth-graders raise more than $400 for Hurricane Sandy relief.

Earlier this week Patch reported on Madison Hicks and Olivia Paquette, two Merrimac fourth-graders who launched a campaign entitled "Guess How Much Candy For Sandy," during the lunch periods at the elementary school.

The girls walked around with a jar full of candy and asked for a $1 donation from students to guess how much candy was in the jar. The winner got the canister of treats while the money collected was sent to the Hurricane Sandy Long Island Disaster Relief Fund to help in the continuing recovery from last fall's storm.

The girls raised a total of $427 for the fund.

Students who donated also got to sign their names to a paper heart, which was hung on the walls at Merrimac. The photos above are Olivia and Madison with their fundraising props.
