Lynwood Student Brings Ducks Ball Player to Class

First grader wins contest after writing essay about his community.

Lynwood Elementary School first grader Kyle Wasson recently won the TD Bank Take a Duck to Class Essay Contest.

On Dec. 21 he brought in Long Island Ducks veteran Ray Navarrette. For Wasson, 6, it was, “very exciting.”

He wrote an essay about his community (see in the gallery to the right). From the fire department to church and his school, he touched on all the basics.

"We are so proud of Kyle for expressing his feelings about his community through his writing," said Lynwood principal Danielle DeLorenzo.

Wasson, who read the essay aloud at the Sachem Central School District Board of Education work session on Wednesday, does play baseball – SYAG tee ball – and roots for the New York Mets and Ducks.

“Kyle worked really hard on his essay and it was great for us as parents to be able to have him see that hard work pays off,” said his dad, Brian. “We are glad he could share the experience with his teachers and classmates.”
