Local Scholarship Opportunities For Sachem Grads

Friends of the Public Library, Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization offer financial endowments with essay applications.

Two local organizations announced today they are offering separate scholarships for graduating seniors in the class of 2013. The scholarships, two from Friends of the Sachem Library and one from the Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization, are centered around student involvement in the community, and are largely based on a written essay that addresses a specific topic. Details were provided to Patch and are listed below:

From the Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization:

The Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization is pleased to announce we are offering a $500 scholarship to any January or June 2013 graduating senior who intends to go on to college and lives within the Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization boundaries (see webpage).  The application and activities verification packet can be picked up in the Sachem North High School Guidance Office or the Teen Desk at Sachem Public Library. A 500-word essay on "How I Have Made a Contribution to My Community" is required, and content, correct formatting and grammar will be counted.

Outstanding finalists will be invited to appear for an interview.  The essay should include details of any volunteer work taken part in as well as Lake Ronkonkoma community activities participated in over the years.  The completed packets should be mailed to:  Patricia Duffield, Chair/Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization Scholarship Committee/ P. O. Attention Sachem High School Seniors:   Applications for the two Friends of Sachem Library Scholarships are available in the guidance offices of Sachem North and Sachem East High Schools and at the Sachem Library Teen Services desk.  The deadline for filing is April 3, 2013.  This year’s theme is “How My Life Would Have Been Different If There Had Been No Sachem Public Library”  and you must complete a minimum 500, 600 maximum, word essay.  (Word count, grammar correct format, originality are required).  Return to: The Friends of Sachem Public Library Scholarship Committee, 150 Holbrook Road, Holbrook, NY. 11741.
