Local Man Running Marathon For Ailing 2012 Sachem Grad

Joe Andrechuk's best friend launches fundraising site on GiveForward.com, plans marathon in September.

A recent Sachem East graduate is the beneficiary of a campaign to raise funds for his cancer treatment, and the man who helped launch the campaign will be running a marathon in his honor.

Joe Andrechuk, who graduated from Sachem East last year was recently diagnosed with two Germinoma brain tumors he's currently receiving treatment for at New York University Hospital. When news of his illness reached his best friend, Jonathan Bruno, he thought of a way to help Andrechuk and his family.

Bruno launched a fundraising campaign on the charity website GiveForward.com. The fundraising page can be reached by clicking here. Bruno hopes to raise $5,000 by June 20, and plans to run the Air Force Marathon at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio on September 21 in Andrechuk's honor. The feat will be Bruno's first-ever marathon, according to Bruno.

Currently the site has raised $3,555, just $1,445 short of its goal.

"Any size donation will be greatly appreciated," Bruno states on the website. "We need to do our best to help the Andrechuk family out with these tough medical expenses."
