HS Playoffs Scheduled For This Weekend Postponed
SectionXI cancels round one of football playoffs, no definite plan in place.
Those itching to see Sachem North take on Bay Shore tonight, or Sachem East battle Northport on Saturday will have to wait at least another week. Section XI, the governing body that oversees varsity sports in Suffolk County, has cancelled the weekend's slate of playoff games as the island struggles to recover from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
According to Newsday, the organization does not have an alternative plan in place and is waiting until most of the schools resume classes, hopefully on Monday. The William Floyd School District website posted the announcement on its homepage. Floyd was scheduled to host Commack on Saturday at 2 p.m. Sachem's homepage is currently disabled from the storm, according to the school's PR director.
