Fundraiser Planned For One of Sachem East's Own

Benefit to help raise funds for Sachem East alum Paul Di Iorio, suffering from cancer.

The Holtsville Fire Department will play host to a fundraiser to assist Sachem East alum and record-holding Varsity wrestler Paul Di Iorio, who is suffering from a rare form of cancer.

Di Iorio will need to undergo a lengthy treatment regimen with frequent visits to Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan.

The “Sachem Takes Down Cancer” event will take place on Friday, October 19 at the Fire Department on Waverly Avenue, starting at 7:00 p.m. There is a suggested donation fee of $25.

According to The Sachem Report, Di Iorio graduated from Sachem East High School in 2008 and was one of the best wrestlers in the school's young history.

He was a four-year varsity letter winner, two-time All-League and All-County wrestler, and team captain. He epitomized the program’s philosophy of wrestling whistle to whistle with the highest possible intensity. His relentless attack paid off, as he still holds the school record for most pins in a season with 29, states the Report.
