Falco Honored by School Boards Association

Has served Sachem community for 27 years as board trustee.

Sachem Central School District board trustee Anthony Falco was honored with the Silver Bullet Award from the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association this week.

Falco, who has served on the board of education in Sachem for 27 years, is one of the longest tenured trustees in Sachem’s 66-year history.

He has served with six superintendents and countless board members, also taking on various functions from board president to vice president and serving on multiple committees.

“I was very surprised and honored to be recognized for my time on the board of education,” he said. “It doesn’t feel like 27 years. It has been interesting and challenging. I was also honored to have my family and members of the board, administration and support staff attend this function, taking time out of their busy schedules. It was greatly appreciated.”

Falco said his tenure has seen ups and downs, but collectively as a board they’ve always achieved their goals.

“This is due mainly to the past and present administrations and the board of education working together,” he said. “I look forward to working with the new board and administration going into next year. It will be a tough year, but Sachem will continue to maintain the best education possible for our students.”

Falco became a board member to serve and give back to the community, which he also did as a New York City Police Officer for 23 years before retiring from the force in 1990. He's also been heavily involved in the Sachem Youth Advisory Group (S.Y.A.G.) for nearly 40 years.

“Tony Falco has given selflessly of his time and talents to the Sachem family for almost 30 years,” said Sachem Superintendent James Nolan. “His top priority is always his family, but a close second is his Sachem family.”

Nolan said it’s unfortunate society does not always realize and appreciate the wisdom that comes from experience.

“Tony's wisdom has helped us through difficult times and motivated us to experience wonderful times,” he said. “In this day and age, very few people give of themselves without compensation. Tony is a throwback to the days when people felt it was their civic responsibility to become involved in schools simply to benefit children. Sachem is truly blessed and certainly thankful for all that Tony Falco does.”
