East's Zeffiro Honored for Volunteerism

Receives proclamation from Legis. Muratore.

Suffolk County Legis. Tom Muratore, R-Ronkonkoma, presented Sachem East incoming senior Valerie Zeffiro a proclamation on behalf of the Suffolk County Legislature to recognize all of her volunteerism at last month’s board of education meeting.

East Principal Rory Manning contacted Muratore’s office to notify them of Zeffiro, who resides in the Fourth Legislative District.

Zeffiro recently received a Certificate of Excellence from the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program as well as the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the White House as a result of her significant number of volunteer hours in her community.

“Valerie really shows, through her community service and volunteerism, that even someone so young can make a difference,” Muratore said. “I am pleased to recognize and pay tribute to Valerie Zeffiro of Farmingville as a young leader of her community, an outstanding volunteer and humanitarian.

"Our future is dependent upon the young people in our community, and I wholeheartedly support recognizing the efforts of our outstanding youth.”

“Valerie is a wonderful young lady who, despite her enormous dedication and outgoing personality, never seeks recognition for her service to her community.  Valerie has accomplished so much through her tremendous spirit of giving which we attempt to instill in all of our students,” Manning said.
