East TD Club Hosts Car Wash

Offered free scrub and put donations towards benefit of the team.

The Sachem High School East varsity Ffotball team hosted a car wash Saturday at Rainbow Deli in Ronkonkoma to raise money for the team.  The car wash was free and any donations patrons wanted to give to the team were accepted.  A steady stream of cars poured into the parking lot as the boys moved quickly to get each car in and washed promptly.

Gary Evans, the owner of Rainbow Deli, is a big supporter of all things sports in the Sachem Community.

"I support everything from cheerleading to soccer to lacrosse to baseball," Evans said.

He also added that this was the first time he has ever held a car wash at the deli, but that he often donates to various sports programs.  Evans is a 15-year resident of Holtsville and says he enjoys supporting sports.

"Sports keep the kids out of trouble and it builds character," he added.

Longtime Sachem football assistant coach Mark Wojciechowski, who was overseeing the car wash, said that over the course of the year they do various fundraisers for the team including raffle books, lotteries, among other things.

"Every fundraiser is community based," he said,  "and the community always comes out for us, they're great."

Head coach Brian Harvey joined the crew later on.

Lucas Brum, a three-year starter on the team, said he enjoys partaking in these fundraisers to raise money for equipment and other items needed to support the team.

"I take great pride in being a part of the community and supporting the team."  he said.

That's what school and community pride is all about.
