BOE Approves Monetary Donation To Sachem Alum

Paul DiIorio receives more than 11K in raised funds from middle school club.

Last night the Board of Education voted unanimously to donate $11,139 to Sachem Alum and former Sequoya student Paul DiIorio, who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

The money was raised in part from a Turkey Trot fundraiser held by the Sequoya Physical Education Department and Leaders Club to help offset the medical costs for the DiIorio family.

At last night's meeting, Superintendent James Nolan praised the club and the middle school for its work in raising such a large sum.

DiIorio has benefited from a number of fundraisers held in his name, most recently, the "Sachem Takes Down Cancer" wrestling tournament that featured Sachem East, Sachem North, William Floyd and Brentwood wrestlers. While a student at Sachem, DiIorio was an All-County wrestler.
