Water Authority Sells Lake Ronkonkoma Lot, Two Homes Coming

A one-acre lot on Center Street was sold for $241,000 as SCWA seeks to unload surplus land.

A one-acre residential lot formerly used as an observation well site in Lake Ronkonkoma has been sold, according to the Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA).

The land on Center Street was sold for $241,000 on March 28 and it was the first SCWA sale of surplus land, with proceeds going "to keep water rates low and to support key infrastructure projects," the SCWA said in a press release.

The Lake Ronkonkoma lot was sold to Campo Brothers, a Port Jefferson-based homebuilder, according to a report on libn.com.

Campo has already pre-sold two homes planned for the land, at prices of $500,000 and $550,000, the report says.

“A close examination of our property holdings indicated that we maintain approximately 30 properties totaling more than 400 acres which we do not anticipate needing for future water supply needs,” SCWA Chairman James F. Gaughran said in a statement. “As such, we decided to appraise the properties and put them on the market to raise significant new revenues for the Authority.”
