Volunteer Emergency Services Appreciation Day on Tap Saturday

Free event at Brookhaven Amphitheater will feature several musical acts.

A month after the massive wildfires out east, a day to honor the legions of volunteer firefighters and other emergency service workers who risked their lives has arrived.

Saturday is “Volunteer Emergency Services Appreciation Day" and with it comes a five-hour long free event at Brookhaven Amphitheater at Bald Hill in Farmingville, full of musical performances and fun.

Doors open at noon and acts will include the Nassau & Suffolk County Fire Department Pipe & Drum Band, Joe Bayer Band, Rattlesnake Dawn, Wonderous Stories, That 70's Band and Quiet Riot.

"They are heroes and this is our small way of thanking them for their brave actions," Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko said last month, of the firefighters, when the special day was announced.

Sponsors include Ronkonkoma's JVC Broadcasting, towns and private firms.
