Just in case you've missed the news coming out of the Town of Islip this past week, here's a sampling of what's going on:

Councilman Edwards sponsors legislation to ban pesticides in parks

The Islip Town Board has scheduled a public hearing on August 17 to adopt legislation that will ban the use of chemical pesticides at all of the Town's 106 parks, in addition to many local facilities that the public use on a daily a basis.

Nolan visits cleanup site

Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan recently visited a site that was cleaned up by the Northeast Neighborhood Watch group. On the corner of Fulton and Ridgewood in Brentwood, a team of eight residents would come every Saturday to help clean the area by removing overgrown bushes and plants.

Town board honors student hero

At a recent town board meeting, Islip Town Councilman John Edwards honored two Bay Shore High School students who saved the life of a man who had gone into cardiac arrest at a senior citizens dance at the school.

Councilman Parrington welcomes home vet

Islip Town Councilman Gene Parrington recently welcomed home Petty Officer First Class Robert Carrozzo of the United States Navy, who has just completed his third tour of duty in Afghanistan. The ceremony was part of the Hometown Heroes Program, which honors local soldiers when they return from overseas.
