Town of Islip Councilman Gene Parrington Named Deputy Supervisor After Jeanine Dillon Leaves Post

Vietnam Veteran has been labor leader of IBEW Local 25 for last decade.

Town of Islip Councilman Gene Parrington was sworn in as the new Deputy Supervisor Wednesday afternoon.

The position was vacated by Jeanine Dillon, who decided to leave her post to pursue other endeavors.

"I thought long and hard about who to appoint as my deputy, and I am confident that Councilman Parrington is the right man for the job," said Islip Supervisor Nolan. "I can't think of anyone more familiar with the goals and ideals of this administration. Additionally, his experience as a labor leader will make him an efficient and more responsive manager of the Town's work force."

Parrington will be charged with coordinating the Town Board agendas. He will also act as a proxy for Supervisor Nolan when he is unable to attend Town Board meetings.

"I am honored to be appointed to this position by the Supervisor," Parrington said in a statement. "As Deputy Supervisor, I plan to continue working towards achieving the Nolan administration's mission of improving services while keeping taxes low and the bond rating high."

Dillon, who has been with the Town since Supervisor Nolan took office in November 2006, vacated the position on last Friday to explore other opportunities.

"It has been a privilege to work for Supervisor Nolan, and I am pleased about the tremendous successes the Nolan team has achieved," Dillon said in a statement.
