Town workers have broken ground on a sidewalk installation along Broadway Avenue in Holbrook after years of waiting for some area residents.
In the photo gallery sent to Patch by Beth Santagata, a resident of Broadway Avenue, the ground has been turned up and prepared for forms to be built on the east side of the road.
two years ago to the Town of Islip voicing her fears for her three young children whom she walks to Merrimac Elementary School every day. Santagata said she repeatedly had to cross the 30 mph zoned street to pick up the sidewalk on the west side.
Two weeks ago she received a letter from the town engineer stating that they had conducted a survey with a contractor and would begin work soon.
"I'm literally, doing the happy dance," Santagata stated in an email "I came home to the old sidewalk being ripped up."
