Supervisor Romaine Honors Holtsville Nursing Center

Island Nursing and Rehab Center earned Five-Star rating from federal government for quality medical services.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine paid a visit to Island Nursing and Rehab Center in Holtsville to personally congratulate the center for its recent Five-Star rating from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The supervisor delivered a proclamation to the center after the federal government recognized the Holtsville facility for its quality work with Medicare and Medicaid services.

“It’s important that our elderly residents receive the highest quality care during their golden years,” Supervisor Romaine stated in a release. “Receiving the prestigious five star rating from CMS is a credit to the management and staff who are committed to making sure that the residents at the center maintain a healthy and comfortable lifestyle, and that their families can be confident that their loved ones are treated with dignity and respect.”

Island Nursing and Rehab Center is a voluntary, non-profit nursing facility that offers healthcare and rehabilitative services for long and short term residents.

The Five-Star Quality Rating System, according to the release, was created by the Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services to help consumers, families, and caregivers compare nursing homes and make informed decisions about quality of service. The CMS’s website includes a system that gives each nursing home a rating of between 1 and 5 stars.
