Suffolk Lawmakers Greenlight CR-83 Project

North Ocean Avenue improvement engineering phase gets its funding.

The has voted to approve funding to conduct the engineering and drafting plans for renovations to the stretch of County Road 83 from the LIE to Route 25.

Legislator Tom Muratore sponsored the resolution, which will help pay to plan for the design, traffic calming meausures, safety improvements and noise mitigation. The cost of the engineering phase totals $500,000, of which $400,000 will be covered by a state grant.

In a release stated that the legislator began fielding complaints from residents and the Farmingville Fire Department about accidents and safety concerns as early as last year.

 “The argument for years has centered on sound walls" Muratore said in the release. "While the sound walls have drawn all the media attention, it became very apparent that we need to completely redesign and improve this section of roadway."

The planning phase precedes an overall $18.5 million project. Kevin Lavalle, a spokesperson for Muratore, said these funds are independent from the for improvements in Suffolk County. In a statement, Muratore added that the project will also help create local jobs.
