Students Meet with Congress for Justice

Program allows students to facilitate ideas about positive change in schools and society.

Students from across Suffolk County spent Tuesday morning at the Dennison Building in Hauppague talking with government officials as part of the Congress for Justice program.

County Exec. Steve Bellone spoke with the students to discuss youth problems in society today. Some of the programs that were mentioned include Sachem East’s "Challenge Day," and Sachem North’s use of Covey leadership skills.

“Everybody had a lot of positive feedback by sharing ideas and brainstorming together,” said Sachem student Nicole Nagy. “I've learned a lot from the students and its amazing to hear about these positive changes they are making to improve their schools. It's a shame to always have to hear about the negative things weather it maybe through the media, newspaper, or websites.

“Not that may students know that youth has the loudest voice and they can really make a difference. It's time that we stop trying to always focus on the negatives but get the side of the story from students and others who engage in positive things. By doing this it will help to influence others and it will help to make a change therefore to better our communities and schools.”
