Sachem Alum Among Historic Advisory Board

Victor Canales, a.k.a. Vic Latino will sit on Brookhaven Town's first-ever Hispanic Advisory Board.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine introduced the newly assembled members of the town's first-ever Hispanic Advisory Board on Friday, and the board includes a notable Sachem Alum.

Victor Canales, more popularly known as DJ Vic Latino, was appointed to the advisory board after the town board voted in favor of creating the body.

The resolution to create the Hispanic Advisory Board was sponsored by Sup. Romaine. Its aim is to "help improve cultural understanding between the Hispanic community, civic and business leaders, Brookhaven government and town residents," according to a recent release.

The advisory board will be tapped with the responsibility of reporting back issues and making legislative recommendations to the town board that promotes the interests of the Hispanic community in Brookhaven.

“Civic and business participation by our Hispanic community is vital,” Sup. Romaine stated in the release. “The population is increasing and number of Hispanic owned businesses continue to grow, providing much needed jobs and opportunities for our residents. This board will address issues and challenges the Hispanic community faces and work with their leadership to move forward.
