Sachem Admins Illustrate Varying Budget Scenarios

Associate Superintendent Singer breaks down numbers and possible cuts based on tax percentage increases.

At last week's Board of Education meeting Sachem administrators rolled out a list of budget options for the upcoming 2013-2014 school budget as was requested of them by board members.

At the meeting, Bruce Singer, Sachem’s assistant superintendent for business, assured the public that the scenarios were not recommendations by the school district, but a breakdown of information intended to help board members weigh its decisions before it finally presents its budget, which it must do by April 17.

“None of these are recommendations, these are not proposals,” Singer reportedly said at the meeting. “These are just to give the board information on suggestions as [the board] suggested last week. These are not our recommendations.”

Meanwhile, the board said it is waiting to hear Gov. Cuomo's second run-through of the New York State budget and its intentions for school aid before it makes any final decisions. That second round of numbers is expected to be made public some time this week, and Patch will report when those numbers are released.
