Ronkonkoma Lawmaker Pushes 'Blanket in a Bag' Drive

Donations still accepted until November 30 as blankets are distributed by local VFW.

Suffolk County Legislator for Ronkonkoma, Tom Muratore was out promoting his “Blanket in a Bag” drive, reporting that donations have been overwhelming in response to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. According to the lawmaker, residents and organizations immediately sprang to action, donating used blankets, quilts, comforters and bedspread to help those in need after Sandy.

“I am pleased by the show of support and generosity within our community," Muratore stated in a release. "The donations continue to pour in, and I consider it a privilege to work alongside the organizations who distribute to the families in need."

Among those organizations are the VFW Post 4927 in Centereach, who have helped dole out the blankets to needy families. If you haven't had a chance to donate a blanket or quilt it's not too late. Donations are still being accepted until Friday, November 30 at 325 Middle Country Road, Suite 3, in Selden. Donors are asked to place a new or clean and lightly used blanket in a bag and drop it off at that location. The office is open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more information, contact Muratore's office at (631) 854-9292.
