Romaine, Losquadro Win Big in Brookhaven

Republicans sweep top offices.

Brookhaven's supervisor, highway chief and clerk all won handily on Tuesday, and will oversee the town's highest offices for the next four years.

Supervisor Ed Romain beat Democrat challenger Vivian Villoria-Fisher, picking up 62 percent of the vote will all but 4 districts reporting. Fisher, a former Suffolk County legislator, had decided to take on the freshman supervisor, Romaine, after serving the maximum 12 years in the county legislature.

Meanwhile, Republican Highway Supervisor Dan Losquadro beat Democrat challenger Lori Baldassare, a liaison to the Suffolk County Department of Public Works, with 59 percent of the vote.

Romaine earned his first full term despite public outcry over his handling of last winter's blizzard, when more than 3 feet of snow paralyzed the town's highway fleet and left many roads unplowed for days. Romaine was vacationing in Jamaica at the time.

Losquadro, a former state assemblyman, was not highway supervisor at the time, and took over the department in a March special election.

In the town clerk race, Republican Donna Lent beat Cathy Schatzger, scoring 58 percent of the vote.
