Rep. Bishop Sounds Off with Transportation Freeze

Sends Governor Paterson letter to reconsider funding halt.

Rep. Tim Bishop sent a letter to Governor David Paterson urging him to reconsider his decision to freeze state funding for construction projects in New York Wednesday afternoon.

"These challenging economic times require leadership that focuses not only on the state's short term economic difficulties, but long term goals. I fear the consequences of this proposal may be pennywise, pound foolish," Bishop wrote in the letter.

As Long Island's only member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Bishop has been a strong supporter of federal partnerships with New York State on critical transportation and other infrastructure projects.
