Presiding Officer Lindsay Praises $32 Million Infrastructure Funds

County projects include improvements in Holbrook.

Citing job creation as a major plus, Suffolk County and Presiding Officer William J. Lindsay lent his support in approving $32 million in capital projects, some of which is slated for improvement projects in the Sachem area.

“Maintaining and improving Suffolk County’s infrastructure is one of our most basic and important responsibilities as elected officials," Lindsay said in a statement.  “These projects will help to ensure the safety of Legislative District Eight constituents and give them the access they need for work and play. It is also important to note that these projects will provide more than 300 jobs at a time when job creation is a top priority for all of us.”

County Executive Steve Bellow was joined by lawmakers and the Long Island Contractors Association at the official signing for the procured funds. The $32 million dollars will help pay for 16 countywide projects, including the repair and resurface of Nichols Road from Furrows Road to Sunrise Highway in Holbrook. Of the total funds, will be used on emergency bridge repair for the span at Woodside Avenue over Waverly Avenue in Holbrook, and the Nichols Road span over Portion Road in Ronkonkoma. The capital project also calls for additional traffic signals along Nichols Road.

“As we continue to work to improve Suffolk’s economy, this investment makes economic sense and helps to ensure the economic stability of the county," Bellone added in the statement.

The county projects are expected to begin this year.
