New State Aid Figures For Sachem Show Slight Improvement

The original projected $2 million in cuts are now restored, additional $300k added to aid.

Albany released its revised state budget yesterday and the new numbers reflect some improvement in its projected aid to the Sachem School District.

Back in January, Gov. Cuomo proposed siphoning roughly $2 million away from the district, a decrease in state aid over last year's budget by 1.87%. The new budget proposal released yesterday has restored that $2 million in cuts and increased its aid to Sachem by .29%, which translates to $312,000 more than last year.

The $2.3 million swing in Sachem's favor reduces the school's budget shortfall from approximately $26 million to $23.7. The Sachem school board has said all along that it will hold off on more definitive budget recommendations until they have a clear picture of what Albany is offering in terms of aid. Patch is awaiting official word from Superintendent Nolan and has left a message with Sen. Lee Zeldin's office for comment.
