Levy Running for Governor as Republican

Sachem alum finally picks party in race for state leader position.

Late last night, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy announced that he will run for the New York State Governor's seat under the GOP ticket against Rick Lazio.

This news came on the same day when Levy and his staff were ordered to take down a "Steve Levy County Executive" banner at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Manhattan. It's against parade bylaws to carry propaganda and signs.

Levy, a Sachem High School alum, who won re-election for his Suffolk County Executive seat with 96 percent of the votes as a democrat in his last campaign, will make the party jump.

Lazio has been on the campaign trail since September, but according to many sources, he has a weak chest of financial support. If either Lazio or Levy prevails from the GOP side, they'll most likely face Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo.

Levy's aides said he was unavailable for comment.
