Kennedy Wins in 12th District

Legislator scores fifth term in office.

Suffolk County Legislator John Kennedy won a fifth term on Tuesday, ousting Democratic challenger Gary Jacobs with more than 72 percent of the vote with all but three precincts reporting.

Kennedy, who first took office after a special election in 2004, is a member of the legislature's health committee, ways and means committee and public safety committee. He also leads the Republican caucus.

Jacobs, a partner in a New Jersey company that makes dog and cat toys, had garnered high hopes from county Democrats, including Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

Kennedy is eligible to run for one more term.
