Islip Town Board Approves MacArthur Runway Repairs

Excess rubber and paint to be removed from runways.

The Islip Town Board approved $84,076 worth of repairs to the MacArthur Airport runways at a meeting last week.

Safety Marking Inc., a Bridgeport, Conn. firm will perform the work, which entails removing rubber and paint from the runways in order to comply with FAA standards.

"When airplanes land, the wheels aren't turning on the airplane so when the wheels hit the runway, they scuff and leave a quantity of rubber, and that builds up," MacArthur deputy airport commissioner Terry Hennessey said, according to a Newsday report
